The only downside is that the difficulty level varies as much as the mission objectives, except for the end when it just becomes stupidly, unnecessarily difficult.
Some levels are all-out action, and some more stealth or exploration-based, but all are well-designed and pleasingly hard to predict. This surfeit of variety extends to the mission types themselves, which can involve everything from demolishing specific towers to rescuing allies and, inevitability, escort missions.
